CARRION SPRING ‘Those We’ve Lost and Continue to Lose‘ 12”EP (ZBR391)

For fans of: Eyelet, Kidcrash, Hundreds Of AU, Leveless, and Bloom Dream.

The Portland band's 3rd full length album and 7th release overall was recorded exactly two years prior, coincidentally to the day, at Atomic Garden Studios with renowned engineer/producer/musician Kurt Ballou of God City Studios/Converge, with mastering by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Clocking in at 43 minutes in length it features 12 emotionally heavy songs, weaving elements of hardcore and screamo, staying true to the band’s traditional form while exploring further dynamic ranges through subdued moody passages, explosive breakdowns, tense build ups, and driving intricate riffs that seamlessly fuse melody and dissonance.

Conceptually, as the title suggests, the album largely deals with many different aspects of loss in our human experience. Several months prior to recording the album, Adam very suddenly lost their mother. One year before, guitarist Steve Son lost their father. A couple of years before that, bassist Gareth Welker lost his mom. Each loss was extremely traumatic in such personally agonizing ways, and experienced real time throughout the band’s entire writing process. The stages of finishing the album became a place for members to share grief together, and not just in personal loss, but also giving heavy emphasis on global loss, such as witnessing in real time the unfathomable amount of loss of Palestinian lives from the genocide in Gaza, mass US school shootings, and deadly climate disasters fueled by human caused climate change. This is an album that expresses profound frustrations with the state of the world’s growing instability, while grappling with personal and collective grief.

12”s /250 white/green color-in-color w/red + black splatter in two-sided insert. 12 tracks.
